MARKS ON PAPER
Beryl White's work was shown at the R.K Burt Gallery in Union Street in SE1 1SG in April 2016 in a collaborative exhibition with Jane Rist. 'Marks On Paper" explored the componants of ordering information across the page. Like many women artists, White uses a grid structure to this end. The grids however are not the rigid industrial metaphors of the modernist movement, but rather fliud, ductile and feminine versions. The hand of the artist is important in White's work, perhaps as an anthithesis to the digital age. Other drawings included in the exhibition focussed on line, and purposeful and randon mark-making, some being made by the artist closing her eyes.
